One time, I remember being so hungry that I can’t wait to grab something to eat. As I head up to Zaxby’s drive-through, I was so disappointed to see how long the line was. Since the kids were sleeping, I did not want to wake them up to come inside so I decided to wait in line. While waiting, it was interesting to see how many cars just left the line after a few minutes. I notice this all the time, when there is a long line in a drive-through, a car or two will eventually get tired of waiting and will leave the line which benefits me because it brings me closer and faster to get my food. Then I thought, maybe they left because they were “not hungry enough,” “too busy to wait” or they did not have the time or patience to wait.
In our Christian life, there are times when the Lord’s answer to our prayers and petition is waiting. When you received that answer from Him, what do you do? Like the long line in the drive-through, do you patiently wait or you simply leave the line? Sometimes, we bombard ourselves with so many things of this world that we don’t find time to stop and wait for the Lord to reveal His plan and receive our blessings. We tend to pollute ourselves with the food that this world offers that we became temporarily full and in the process, deceived ourselves in thinking we do not need the food and blessings that God was asking for us to wait for. We tend to overwork or over schedule ourselves with things that may not be necessarily bad, but it takes precedence in our heart that we eventually put on the side the ONE who gives us the strength and the life to be able to fulfill those duties and responsibilities. We became too busy and too caught up with the things in this world that we don’t have time to wait for the Lord. God is not a genie in a bottle where we can just rub Him, and we can get want we want when we want it. The Lord has a reason for allowing us to wait, and that reason is always for our good. Always remember that He is never late nor early and His timing is ALWAYS perfect.
Finally, it was time for me to get my food. I was so hungry that my first bite was so fulfilling. The wait was worth it. I am glad I never left the line to go somewhere else or get something different. This is what I was craving for, and it truly satisfied me. When we choose not to wait for the Lord, we ended up missing the blessings and His ultimate plan for our life. We can try to fill our hunger with what this world offers but at the end only the Lord can fully satisfy our starving soul.
The question is when God tells you to wait, will you be hungry enough and available enough to wait, regardless of how long it will take? Believe me, once you receive the blessings that the Lord has in store for you, you will realize that you will never settle for anything less than what HE can offer.
“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him . . . ” Psalm 37:7
